What is the biggest environmental danger to our planet? Greenhouse gases or the over population of the earth. The current population of the earth 6.662 billon. Though out human history the plaint has supported a population of about 2 billon people up until the nineteenth century when it began to move toward 3 billon.
3 or 4 billon is sustainable but once you move beyond that number you start to see the things we see now, a major lessening of the oceans fish stocks, the destruction of forests and mass extinction of other species, and then we come to green house gases. These are increasing at an alarming number, pushed up by the industrial growth in to of the largest countries of the old third world, India and China. The wholesale clearing of forests in Indonesia and The Amazon, once considered the earths lungs.
Why? I guess the simple answer is as humans we are to smart for our own good. Where a hundred year ago a brake out of flu would wipe out hundreds of millions of people from the worlds population today it just slows the population growth trend, but does not lower it. There has not been a major war in 60+ years now and the small conflicts going on at the moment out side of those in Africa do not have a high mortality rate.
What is the answer? Ultimately extinction, or a at lesser point starvation and fall back into a less evolved society.
In truth I don’t have the answer to this but I can see the problem.
More to come.
